The Association of Latin American Sugar Producers (UNALA) announced the incorporation of Puerto Rico, represented by Sotavento Sugar, expanding its presence to 15 countries and territories across Latin America.
Alfredo Vila, President of UNALA, welcomed the new member and highlighted the importance of continuing to broaden the representation of the region’s sugar agroindustry.
“We are pleased to welcome Puerto Rico to UNALA, bringing the number of countries and territories represented in our organization to 15. We continue to strengthen the exchange of best practices, knowledge generation, and joint efforts to address the challenges and opportunities facing our agroindustry,” Vila stated.
Francisco Schettini, CFO of Sotavento Sugar, also emphasized the company’s interest in actively participating in UNALA’s initiatives and contributing to greater exchange and cooperation among the various stakeholders in the region’s sugar agroindustry.
Since its establishment, UNALA has worked to strengthen regional cooperation and highlight the contribution of Latin America’s sugarcane agroindustry. Its members remain committed to the sustainable production of sugar, bioelectricity, bioethanol, and other sugarcane-derived products, as well as to generating employment and fostering development in the communities where they operate.
